Contemporary Social Work with Adults

This course will offer an in depth review of contemporary approaches to the treatment of adults. It provides social workers with the opportunity to deepen their clinical skills, and explore issues working in clinics or private practice. Topics include:
  • exploration of new issues for clinicians in the mental health field
  • an overview of assessment issues
  • discussion of therapeutic orientation & modality
  • case based teaching
  • termination issues

Several senior members of the Psychological Clinic will appear as guest lecturers during the course.

This course will enroll a maximum of 12 individuals, which allows the instructor to work closely with each participant.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:
  • develop a treatment plan which incorporates the contemporary techniques reviewed in the course.
  • demonstrate the capacity to formulate a case from within a contemporary multi-cultural framework.
 

In order to receive full continuing education credit, participants must attend the entire duration of each course meeting, as well as complete the course evaluation and participant attendance log at every course meeting. Upon completing the course, a Completion Certificate will be awarded which lists: the name of the instructor, course, program, location, date and the number of continuing education credit hours received.

Participants with complaints or grievances regarding course content, refund requests, or other grievances should first speak with the course instructor to attempt to resolve the matter in good faith. If resolution or an agreement is not reached, participants may appeal to the Continuing Education Director.

Course fees will be $425 which includes the course selected and a participant course-pack. A full refund will be given up to the first day of class for cancellations from the whole course. There will be no refunds for missed sessions.

The Institute for Human Adjustment, provider # 1166, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org, through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. The Institute for Human Adjustment maintains responsibility for the program.

Social workers participating in this course will receive 20 continuing education clock hours.
